The Constants in an Ever Changing Field
No matter how many new softwares, techniques, plugins and tools become available the core fundamentals of creating good artwork remain the same and knowing them is as valuable as it ever was.
Apart from just knowing what makes a good composition, how to treat light & colour, learning anatomy & understanding perspective there are other aspects we deal with as concept artists as well; some that make your work elevated compared to others. In this talk I’ll go through my workflow but also discuss the importance of continuous studying of references (and how), acquiring real life experiences, staying humble and being a good communicator in our field. All of this while also touching a bit on the trends in our industry and how I view all of this both as a Lead Concept Artist, but also simply just as a curious, creative individual.

Gabriel Björk Stiernström
Gabriel is a Lead Concept Artist at Goodbye Kansas Studios, an Animation and VFX studio located in Stockholm.
Prior to GBK he worked at Digic Pictures and because of these two studios he’s had a part of almost every major game IP franchise today through cinematic trailers & in-game cutscenes. Outside of his full time commitments he also spends plenty of time tackling freelance tasks where he’s had the opportunity to work directly with game companies and in the print industry.
